Your email address is the address used to send and receive email, such as firstname.lastname@example.com. This page cannot see your personal address, but you can normally find it by opening the email app or website you use and checking its profile or account area. You can also start a new message and look for the From address. The exact controls vary between services and devices.

How to find your email address

The easiest way to find your email address is usually through the email service or app you already use.

1. Open the email app or website you normally use.
2. Open the profile, account or account-settings area.
3. Look for an address containing the @ symbol.
4. If several accounts or addresses are shown, start a new email and check the From address to see which address the message will be sent from.

Do not try to guess your email address from your name. Copying it directly from your account is less likely to result in a spelling mistake.

What does my email address look like?

An email address normally contains a name or identifier, the @ symbol and a domain.

For example:

firstname.lastname@example.com

The important thing is that the full address includes the @ symbol and everything on both sides of it.

A name shown beside your emails is not necessarily your email address. For example, an email app might show a person’s name prominently while their actual email address appears underneath it.

Your email address is also different from your password. Your email address identifies where email is sent, while your password is used to sign in and should not be shared.

How to find your Gmail address

If you are already signed in to Gmail, select your profile picture or account icon in the top-right corner.

Your Google account email address appears with your account information.

The same basic method works in the Gmail app on Android, iPhone and iPad. Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner to see the accounts added to Gmail.

If you have more than one account, make sure you copy the address for the account you actually want to use.

How to find your Outlook email address

Outlook can contain several types of email account, including Outlook.com, Microsoft 365 and accounts from other email services. Using Outlook does not necessarily mean that your address ends in @outlook.com.

If you use Outlook on a computer, open the account settings to see the email accounts added to Outlook. In the new Outlook for Windows, go to Settings > Accounts > Your accounts. In classic Outlook, select File > Account Settings > Account Settings.

If you use Outlook.com in a browser and want to confirm which address a message will be sent from, start a new email and select Options > Show From. The address shown in the From field is the sending address for that message.

Some Microsoft accounts have more than one email address attached to them, so you may see more than one available address.

How to find your email address on a phone

The simplest method on a phone or tablet is usually to check the account area inside the email app you use.

In the Gmail app on Android, iPhone or iPad, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner. The account menu shows the email accounts available in Gmail.

If you use Apple’s Mail app on an iPhone or iPad, you can see the mail accounts added to the device under Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.

A phone can have several email accounts connected to it. There is therefore no single email address that automatically counts as “the email address on your phone”.

What if you have more than one email address?

It is normal to have more than one email address. You might have separate personal and work accounts, or several addresses connected to the same email app.

Some email accounts can also have additional sending addresses.

If you are unsure which address you are currently using, start a new email and look at the From address where your email service shows one. This tells you which address that particular message will be sent from.

If the service lets you choose another From address, make sure the one you want is selected before using or sharing it.

Check the address before you use it

Copy your email address directly from your account information where possible rather than typing it from memory.

Make sure you have copied the whole address, including the @ symbol and the domain after it.

If more than one address is shown, check that you have selected the account or sending address you actually want to use.
