Soft Bounces

March 20, 2014 - By

A soft bounce email is a message which gets as far as the recipient’s mail server but is bounced back undelivered before it reaches the intended recipient. A soft bounce can occur most likely if the inbox of the recipient is full. It may be deliverable at some other time or may be forwarded manually by the network administrator in charge of redirecting the mail on the domain of the recipient.

A soft bounce normally takes place when the receiving mail server is temporarily unavailable to receive the mails. The main reasons can also include:

  • The server is down or is unavailable.
  • The server is busy or overloaded.
  • The mailbox of the recipient is full.
  • The size of the mail message is too big.
